Texas hires Gray as new assistant head coach

Former Texas Longhorns star Jerry Gray will be the Longhorns' new assistant head coach and defensive backs coach.
Texas coach Mack Brown announced the hiring Monday. He becomes the third ex-Longhorns player on Brown's staff, joining co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite and defensive ends coach Oscar Giles.
Gray played defensive back for Texas from 1981-84.
He was a two-time All-American before playing nine NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He was an assistant coach in the NFL for the Tennessee, Buffalo, Washington and most recently with Seattle.
