Dontey Gay broke a tie early in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run, and Tennessee Tech held on to beat Jacksonville State 21-14 on Saturday.

Tennessee Tech (5-2, 4-1 Ohio Valley Conference) is now tied for first place in the conference with Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter when Adam Urbano scored on a 5-yard run.

Jacksonville State (5-3, 4-1) responded with a 13-play, 70-yard drive that was capped by Coty Blanchard's 13-yard touchdown TD run to tie the game at 14-14 late in the third quarter. But Gay, who also had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, answered with his go-ahead score for Tennessee Tech with 13:06 left to play.

Tim Benford had four catches for 37 yards, breaking Tennessee Tech's school record in receptions that was previously held by Larry Shipp. Benford now has 197 career catches.
