Syracuse Football: Passing the eye test is key this season

The Syracuse football program has one of the toughest schedules in the country. The future will be written by more than just wins and losses this season for the Orange.
We talked about some of the expectations for the Syracuse football team with our pieces: The Goal is to get to six and a debate between wins vs the potential prestige of a momentous upset.
But we all can mutually agree that this season is much more important than wins and losses for this team. At the end of the day it’s all about passing the eye test.

So what does that mean? Well Syracuse football fans want to see this team compete this season.
Which is important considering they have the 10th toughest schedule in all of college football. Unfortunately Syracuse is going to go undefeated and win every game this year.
But the next best thing is competing on college football’s biggest stage, which the Orange will have several opportunities to do. Beyond simply competing against the top teams on their schedule, we want to see the foundation of the future.
New head coach Dino Babers has thrown around a lot of bluster about his high octane offense. While it’s supposed to take time to fully install, we should be able to see the groundwork.
Even as early as the season opener Friday night against Colgate in the Carrier Dome. The fan base wants to see the up-tempo, no huddle, and some flashes of the potential explosiveness of this offense.
If Babers’ can successfully show the ingredients of a winning program, then Syracuse can get those attendance numbers up. On top of that, he can provide hope for a fan base that has been starving for a long time.
Per @Cuse: Syracuse football has sold more new season tickets this offseason (~3,650) than any since 1992; renewal rate above 90%

Syracuse.com reporter, Stephen Bailey gave us this nugget to chew on and it really speaks to the hype. Although the fan base always gets an injection of excitement and curiosity with the arrival of a new coach.
But specifically with Babers entering the fold and the type of offense he plans on bringing in. The fans are buying in, but the hard part is maintaining the hype.
Babers and crew will get their first opportunity to guide this hype train Friday night against Colgate.
