The Notre Dame starting quarterback, Deshone Kizer, doesn’t lack confidence heading into a pivotal tilt against the Syracuse football team.

Believe it or not this game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Syracuse football team holds great importance. The Irish haven’t been (1-4) in a long time, understandably so.

This team year in and year out is in the national championship conversation. Yet they’ve faced a ton of adversity throughout this young season.

While their opponent on Saturday is looking to make a name for themselves with the first big win of the Dino Babers era. But apparently according to the Irish’s star quarterback, Deshone Kizer, Saturday is a mere formality.

“Practice has been a blast so far this week. Every practice we’re getting stronger. While when we get to game-day on Saturday, there will be a W in that column when we play how we know how too.”

There was once another high profile quarterback who guaranteed a victory in outstanding fashion. “Broadway” Joe Namath in Super Bowl III wasn’t afraid of the spotlight and in the lead-up to the game simply guaranteed a New York Jets victory.

While sometimes quotes can be taken out of context in this business, this didn’t seem to be the case with Kizer. This Irish team seems focused heading into this prime-time game against Syracuse.

And why shouldn’t they be? They just lost to a Duke football team, who while they’re respectable, they simply aren’t at the level of a Notre Dame.

While the Syracuse football program isn’t at that level either, their offense is dynamic. Notre Dame head coach, Brian Kelly, has talked up how good this Orange offense is all week long.

He understands the challenges they pose, especially considering how bad this Irish defense has been all season long. We’ll see on Saturday if Kizer can cash the check his mouth just wrote.
