Rich Vitale recovered a fumble in the end zone for Stony Brook as the Seawolves defense led the way in a 27-9 win over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

Stony Brook (2-3, 1-0 Big South Conference) held the Keydets (2-3, 1-1) to 192 yards of total offense, including 8 yards rushing.

VMI took an early lead on a 28-yard field goal by Jeff Sexton with 8:39 left in the first quarter, but the Seawolves responded with 20 straight points.

Wesley Skiffington kicked a 44-yard field goal to put Stony Brook ahead 13-3 with 9:44 left in the third quarter. During the Keydets ensuing possession, a little more than a minute later, they fumbled it on fourth-and-4 from their own 15 into the end zone for Vitale's score.

Brock Jackolski had 91 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and Miguel Maysonet added 99 yards on 21 carries for the Seawolves.
