South Carolina State tops Bethune-Cookman, 26-18

Dominique Ellis returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown with 4 minutes left to preserve South Carolina State's 26-18 victory over Bethune-Cookman Saturday in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The touchdown came two plays after Derrick Wiley gave the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-0) the lead for good, 19-18, with a 3-yard TD run.

Bethune-Cookman (1-1, 0-1) drove to the South Carolina State 5 before turning the ball over on downs with 1:42 left. The Wildcats lost despite 397 total yards to 211 for S.C. State. Each team committed five turnovers.

Jamarr Robinson threw two TD passes for Bethune-Cookman, a 44-yarder to Eddie Poole and a 12-yarder to Jordan Murphy. The Wildcats led 18-12 early in the fourth quarter. Wiley's TD and the extra point gave S.C. State the lead. He rushed for 121 yards. Robinson passed for 245 yards with four interceptions, two in the fourth quarter.
