Bond has been set at just over $1 million in a theft case against a former Ohio State and NFL player whose career was derailed by a gambling addiction.

Attorney Sam Shamansky says Art Schlichter (SHLEES'-tur) had hoped to be released from jail to get treatment for the addiction. Schlichter was charged in February with stealing more than $1 million from a Columbus-area woman by deceiving her about why he took the money.

The 50-year-old Schlichter spent 10 years in prison for gambling-related crimes. He played at Ohio State between 1978 and 1981and in the NFL for the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills.

If Schlichter posts bond, he must remain on house arrest at his mother's home in Washington Court House in southwest Ohio. He also is not to have contact with the alleged victim.
