An interception return for a touchdown by Byron Leggett sealed Savannah State's 33-30 win over North Carolina Central on Saturday night in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Leggett's 50-yard return with 46 seconds to play extended Savannah State's lead to 33-22.

The Eagles (1-3, 0-1) responded with an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Geovonie Irvine and a two-point conversion for the final margin. The onside kick was recovered by the Tigers (1-3).

Savannah State (1-3, 1-0) has won two games in a row in the series.

Antonio Bostick, who ran for two touchdowns, passed for 200 yards and a score for the Tigers. Bostick's 5-yard touchdown run gave the Tigers a 27-15 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Michael Johnson threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles, who have lost their past two games by a total of four points.
