Lamon Muldrow's 6-yard touchdown run with 1:10 remaining Saturday night gave San Jose State a 16-11 victory over Southern Utah.

Jordan LaSecla threw for 193 yards on 24-of-35 passing as the Spartans (1-2) survived a mistake-filled, penalty-plagued contest.

Brandon Rutley rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Spartans, who bounced back from losses at No. 1 Alabama and No. 11 Wisconsin, and improved to 11-0 all-time against FCS schools.

Brad Sorensen, a transfer from BYU, threw for 230 yards on 23-of-39 passing for Southern Utah (1-2) before leaving the game with an apparent left ankle injury late in the third quarter.

Zach Olsen took over for Sorensen, guiding the Thunderbirds to a go-ahead score.

Ryan McNamara's 32-yard field goal with 1:53 left in the third period gave Southern Utah an 11-10 advantage.
