Sam Houston State defeats Incarnate Word 40-19

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Jared Johnson threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns to lead Sam Houston State to a 40-19 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday night.
Sam Houston State took a 23-0 lead in the first quarter, capped by Keshawn Hill's short touchdown run, his second 1-yard score of the game.
Incarnate Word scored the first 10 points of the second quarter, but Johnson extinguished the run by finding Gerald Thomas for a 5-yard touchdown.
Hill finished with 79 yards rushing on 15 carries with two touchdowns and Thomas caught four passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns for Sam Houston State (6-4, 5-1 Southland).

Jordan Scelfo completed 21 of 38 passes for 213 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Incarnate Word (2-8, 2-5).
