Roberts leads Yale to 29-28 win over Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) Morgan Roberts threw for 293 yards and three second half touchdowns and Yale opened its season with a 29-28 win over Colgate on Saturday.

Roberts engineered a seven-play, 61-yard drive, capped by a 13-yard pass to Michael Siragusa Jr. with 3:39 remaining as the Bulldogs rallied from a 14-point deficit to defeat the Raiders (0-3).

Yale, which trailed by 14, had closed within 28-22 when Roberts and Robert Clemons III connected on a 30-yard score and Matthew Oplinger ran in the conversion midway through the fourth quarter.

Roberts completed 29 of 41 passes and Siragusa had seven catches for 82 yards, adding a 4-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Colgate scored three straight touchdowns to lead 21-7 at the half - the last came with 3:02 before the break when Pat Afriyie sacked Roberts and forced a fumble that Cameron Buttermore returned 35 yards.

John Wilkins, James Holland and quarterback Jake Melville had rushing touchdowns for Colgate.
