Steve Probst threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Johnson-Farrell with 1:10 left to play, helping Rhode Island defeat Massachusetts 37-34 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday.

The defeat might have dealt a crushing blow to the Minutemen's hope of making it into the 20-team Football Championship Subdivision field to be announced Sunday morning. Massachusetts (6-5, 4-4) got 373 yards and two touchdowns passing out of Kyle Havens, but the Rams (5-6, 4-4) got season-high-tying three touchdown passes from Probst, who ran for another.

Deontray Johnson began the game-winning drive with a 48-yard kickoff return, putting the Rams at the UMass 46-yard line. Johnson-Farrell caught a 21-yard pass that advanced the Rams to the 9, setting up a first-and-goal. The Rams converted on fourth-and-goal from the 3 as Probst hit Johnson-Farrell in the right corner of the end zone.
