After four games Gus Malzahn has decided to turn over play-calling duties to Rhett Lashlee for the rest of the season.

Going into this season Gus Malzahn decided to be more hands-on wit

h the offense, making offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee take a back seat.

Many fans, including myself, thought this would be good news for an offense that looked terrible at times in 2015.

However, just four games into the 2016 season Gus Malzahn decided that it was best to turn over play-calling duties back to Rhett Lashlee.

I’m not complaining about the offensive play-calling from the LSU game as I think that’s the game plan we needed to beat LSU, but what about that play-calling warranted a change?

It was still the same dry offense that we’ve seen for a year and a half now.

Gus Malzahn is supposed to be an offensive genius, and yet he couldn’t figure out a way to score points with this personnel. So we’re supposed to assume that Rhett Lashlee can come up with something better midseason?

I’m not buying this move for Gus. You’re the head coach, you’re supposed to be the offensive guru, and you’re supposed to fix this offense.

It feels like he’s just putting the onus on Lashlee now in case the offense doesn’t pick up this season so the fans have someone else to blame.

The Clemson and Texas A&M game can solely be blamed on Malzahn because of the poor play-calling on offense. If that trend continues he’ll share blame along with Lashlee now.

I think this was somewhat of a cowardice move by Malzahn.

Of course, this could also go the other way around, and if the offense takes off Lashlee could will get the praise.

This move makes absolutely no sense to me at this point in the season after a big win.

The offensive play-calling against LSU was as conservative as it gets. There was nothing special about the play-calling in that game. It was the perfect attack against an LSU team that you know isn’t going to score a lot of points, but it won’t work the rest of the season.

I’m not sure what’s to be gained by making this switch now. This season is on Gus Malzahn, and now it seems like he’s looking to create a scapegoat.

I don’t like one bit.
