Michigan State defensive tackle Micajah Reynolds says he helped save the life of a Lansing, Mich., teenager who'd been shot multiple times in the early morning of July 31.
Reynolds says he was driving home when he saw the man waving at him in his rearview mirror, desperate for medical attention after being shot in the head, arm and torso, leading Reynolds to pull over and apply pressure to his wounds while they waited for an ambulance.
“The streets were pitch black, and nobody was around in the street late at night,” Reynolds told MLive.com.
“He was bleeding out all over me. ... I’m trying to keep him awake the whole time. He’s telling me, ‘I’m going to die. It’s over.’ I’m like, ‘Bro, you’re sitting here talking to me. You’re going to be OK.’ I was trying to downplay it, but it was pretty bad.”
Although the report says the 18-year-old lost an eye, he survived thanks in no small part to Reynolds’ quick thinking.
“It makes me value my time here,” Reynolds said. “It makes me value the fact that I’m not on the streets. I’m not dealing with all the different things that I could have gotten into. It just makes me thankful for what I have.”
