Report: Scelfo to coach SE Louisiana

(STATS) - Southeastern Louisiana is hiring Frank Scelfo as its head coach, according to a report Monday.

Football Scoop said Scelfo will take over for Ron Roberts, who resigned two weeks ago to become the defensive coordinator at Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Southland Conference school has called a news conference on campus Tuesday to introduce its new coach.

Scelfo, who turns 59 next month, served as UTSA's offensive coordinator the last two seasons.

His 35-year coaching career began in the Louisiana high school ranks and has included stints at Tulane and Louisiana Tech as the offensive coordinator. He also was the quarterbacks coach at the University of Arizona and for the Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Scelfo is part of a football family. His younger brother Chris is the offensive line coach at the University of Houston and was Tulane's head coach from 1998-2006.

Southeastern Louisiana had a 6-5 record last season. The Lions will open their 2018 season on Sept. 1 at Louisiana-Monroe, which is Scelfo's alma mater.
