Report: Police clear Georgia players in taxi incident

Athens-Clarke County police said University of Georgia football
players were not the offenders in an incident in which four men
allegedly threatened and hit a married couple in an Athens taxi,
the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.
The report indicated that one football player was in the
vehicle at the time of the March 28 incident, but that an
investigation "revealed that he acted as a peacemaker and tried to
calm the situation." Police did not indentify that player, the
report said.
Police said suspects have been identified as residents of
Heard County, and that arrest warrants are pending.
A police report of the incident filed by the victims said
that the couple was riding in a taxi van at around 2 a.m. when the
driver stopped to pick up four males in Athens. The male victim
told police that the men threatened he and his wife and hit them in
the back of their heads, according to the report.
