Report: Ole Miss athletic programs under NCAA investigation

This was supposed to be the state of Mississippi's version of Super Saturday, with Texas A&M visiting Mississippi State and Alabama traveling to Oxford to face Ole Miss.

But there already is a blemish on the weekend. Yahoo Sports is reporting that the University of Mississippi athletic program is under investigation by the NCAA.

The probe, according to the report, is focused on the men's football team and the women's basketball team. School athletic director Russ Djork told Yahoo the school "is working with the NCAA," but has not received a Notice of Allegations nor does it have a hearing date set.

According to Yahoo, head coach Hugh Freeze is not believed to be involved in any major infractions, many of which date to the previous staff.

The report adds that it is believed much of the investigation is centered on the women's hoops program.

Trouble would be nothing new to Ole Miss football, which has been sanctioned three times for major violations. In 1994, the Rebels were given a one-year television ban, a two-year postseason ban and four years of probation, along with scholarship reductions. In 1986, the Rebels were hit with a year ban from both television and the postseason, along with two years' probation. In 1959, the program was put on a one-year probation.
