Report: Houston's Herman is 'clear leading candidate' for S.C. job

While interim head coach Shawn Elliott has done an impressive job in rallying the Gamecocks in his short tenure as the team's leader after the resignation of Steve Spurrier, it appears those in charge of the South Carolina football program have their eyes on another candidate to take the job full time.
According to JC Shurburtt of 247Sports, University of Houston's Tom Herman is now the "clear leading candidate" in the Gamecocks' head-coaching search.
Before landing in Houston, Herman was the offensive coordinator for Ohio State's 2014 national championship team, where he won the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach.
In his first season as Houston's head coach, Herman has helped lead the Cougars to an 8-0 record, with eyes toward winning the American Athletic Conference over fellow undefeated Memphis and one-loss Temple.
