Report: Former Alabama LB Derrick Thomas enters Hall of Fame

After an 11-year NFL career that included nine Pro Bowls, Derrick Thomas was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

Now, he'll add a second Hall of Fame induction to his list of accolades.

Thomas will be posthumously named to the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 when it is announced at 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, according to ESPN. He died in 2000 at the age of 33 after an automobile accident left him paralyzed.

Thomas played in Tuscaloosa from 1985-88 and won the '88 Butkus Award, honoring the nation's best linebacker. That year, he set a school record in sacks with 27 and was a first-team All-Americam and the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year.

In the Crimson Tide career record books, Thomas leads the way in sacks (52) and tackles for loss (68).

Thomas is the 24th player from Alabama to enter the College Football Hall of Fame. The Class of 2014 will be officially inducted on Dec. 9 at the 57th National Football Foundation awards dinner in New York City.
