Report: Boise St. set on Big East move

Boise State will follow through on its plan to join the Big East in 2013 after giving the move a second thought, CBSSports.com reported Friday.

The university, which already signed a contract to join the Big East as a football-only member, reportedly reaffirmed its decision to Mountain West Conference officials after holding several discussions about scrapping the move.

According to the report, Boise State officials wanted to finalize their decision prior to the start of the Big East meetings on Sunday.

One of the main issues Boise State reportedly considered was whether the Big East would have automatic-qualifier status when the new BCS system goes into effect in 2014.

The Big East winner currently receives an automatic spot in a BCS bowl, while the Mountain West winner does not.

Boise State, one of college football's winningest programs in recent years, is one of six schools slated to join the Big East in 2013 along with San Diego State, Central Florida, SMU, Houston and Memphis.

The school would have been on the hook for a $5 million exit fee had it decided to remain in the Mountain West.
