Report: Bama 'would take' Golson, doesn't think SEC will grant waiver

By Matt Lombardi
Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has yet to make a decision on where he’ll transfer for his final year of collegiate eligibility, but it’s starting to become clear that he may not have as many options as originally thought. Wednesday afternoon, ESPN’s Brett McMurphy is reporting that Alabama “would take” the signal-caller, but the school is skeptical that the SEC will grant a waiver regarding Golson’s past academic issues.
Should the SEC refuse to grant such a waiver, Golson wouldn’t be able to transfer to Alabama, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina or Florida – all schools that were originally thought to be potential landing spots. Texas is out, given Notre Dame’s decision to ban Golson from playing for any of its 2015 opponents. And UCLA, another school on Golson’s “wish list”, has said that it hasn’t contacted him about transferring.
If Golson were to be granted a waiver and decided to transfer to Alabama, he’d likely have to beat out senior Jacob Coker for the job.
