Sophomore tackle Ben Jebb of Cornwall and freshman defensive lineman Mitch McKearn — a 2010 James I. O’Neill graduate — were among seven members of Army’s football team excused from Tuesday’s morning practice at the Armed Forces Bowl for a good reason.

The group greeted about 135 soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. The troops stopped in Kuwait before a 22-hour flight to Fort Worth.

Sophomore fullback David Collins, junior defensive back Jack Finan, sophomore linebacker C.J. Shelley and student assistants Taylor Hall and George Fletcher were expected to join Jebb and McKearn for a visit to Cook’s Children Hospital in Fort Worth later Tuesday afternoon.
