Penn State Nittany Lions Ranked No. 217 In FanSided's Fandom 250

The Penn State Nittany Lions came in at No. 217 on FanSided’s Fandom 250, a list of the top fan bases among sports, fashion, pop culture, and entertainment.

After announcing nominees throughout the month of November, the official rankings in the FanSided Fandom 250 were released Tuesday. The Nittany Lions came in at No. 217, thanks in large part their large, loyal fan base.

According to the rankings:

Penn State athletics, especially the football program, has one of the more loyal fan followings in all of sports. When it comes to college football fans who travel with their team, it has been common knowledge for years that few travel better than loyal Nittany Lions supporters.

Even through some tough times, Penn State fans remained loyal to the program. They continue to fill Beaver Stadium and make it roar with the chant of “We Are!”

These days, fans of the Nittany Lions have had a lot to cheer about. After starting the season 2-2, head coach James Franklin and his team has made a remarkable turnaround. The Nittany Lions won nine consecutive games to end the season, including a comeback victory in the Big Ten Championship.

Up next for Penn State this season is a date with USC in the Rose Bowl.

The Fandom 250 included television shows, movies, brands, countless celebrities, and games, as well as sports teams.

19 college programs made the list, with the Nittany Lions beating out Auburn and Michigan State. Ohio State came in as the top college fan base, ranking No. 8.

The Chicago Cubs topped the list as the No. 1 fan base.
