Ole Miss fans step up again, raise more than needed for fine, goal posts

Ole Miss fans have taken supporting their athletic program to new heights in the past 24 hours.
Following Saturday's 23-17 victory over Alabama, fans tore down both goal posts and stormed the field. According to multiple reports, replacing the goal posts could run upwards of $10,000 each. Then the SEC levied a $50,000 fine against the school for fans storming the field.
So the school went back to the fans for some aid. It set up a website to raise funds to cover the costs, allowing fans to buy in at different levels. As of early Wednesday morning, it had exceeded its goal of $75,000 -- by more than $17,000.
It should be noted that The Clarion-Ledger reports the school was willing to cover the costs, but that fans had asked for ways to donate to the program.
A $5 donation nets a thank you letter from the athletics director while $25 nets a desktop background. For a $250 donation one gets a commemorative print of the win. For $500 one gets a 3-inch section of the goalposts while $1,000 gets a six-inch piece of it.
The school told the Clarion-Ledger that it has recovered an 18-foot piece of the goalpost.
