Jarod Brown kicked three second-half field goals, the last with 12:14 remaining, as Old Dominion edged James Madison 23-20 Saturday in the schools' first meeting.

Brown succeeded from 19 and 40 yards in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth for the Monarchs (7-2, 4-2 Colonial Athletic Association), a third-year program.

The Dukes (5-3, 3-2) got into field goal range twice after that, but Cameron Starke missed from 51 yards with 6:33 left and had a 47-yarder blocked as time expired.

Dae'Quan Scott ran for 12- and 5-yard touchdowns in the first half, when James Madison took a 20-14 lead. But the Dukes lost three offensive linemen before halftime and were held to 76 second-half yards after getting 266 in the first half.

Taylor Heinecke completed 22 of 35 for 236 yards and two first-half touchdowns for Old Dominion. Jace Edwards was 17-of-26 for 239 yards for James Madison.
