Andrew Luck's name will be a part of Stanford football long after he's gone.

The university announced Tuesday that its offensive coordinator position has been endowed by a ''very generous gift'' from an anonymous donor in honor of the graduating quarterback. The position will now officially be called the Andrew Luck Director of Offense.

Stanford has endowments for many positions in the athletic department, although most are reserved for head coaches and the athletic director.

Luck led the program's resurgence the past three seasons, twice finishing runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and going No. 1 overall to the Indianapolis Colts in last month's NFL draft. He will graduate with an architectural design degree in June.

Luck says it's a ''huge tribute'' and ''a very proud legacy for me.''

Pep Hamilton, who is entering his third season on the Stanford coaching staff, will be the school's first Andrew Luck director of offense when the Cardinal take the field this fall.

"It is a tremendous honor to hold this position and to be associated with an outstanding young man like Andrew Luck," Hamilton told the school's website.

In three seasons as a starter at Stanford, Luck passed for 9,430 yards and 82 touchdowns.
