Northern Illinois has rewarded coach Dave Doeren with a nearly $50,000 raise and a one-year contract extension after leading the Huskies to their second straight 10-win season.

They are 10-3 in their first year under Doeren and won their first Mid-American Conference Championship in 28 years. The Huskies are scheduled to meet Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Jan. 8.

The extension announced Thursday means that Doeren's contract now runs through June 30, 2017, and his annual salary jumps from $371,000 to $420,000. NIU also made adjustments to Doeren's buyout amounts in future years.
