MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota quarterback Phillip Nelson is transferring to Rutgers.

Nelson father, Pat Nelson, told the Star Tribune in Minneapolis on Wednesday that his son has decided to attend Rutgers after also considering Kansas State.

Rutgers could not comment because the move had not yet become official. Nelson visited the Scarlet Knights' campus in Piscataway, N.J., on Sunday.

Phillip Nelson plans to enroll in class Friday and will have to sit out a year as required by NCAA rules.
