Mills leads San Diego to 58-14 win over Valparaiso

Mason Mills threw for four touchdowns and 230 yards to lead the University of San Diego to a 58-14 victory over Valparaiso Saturday.

Joe Ferguson added to the offensive production by rushing for 125 yards on 15 carries. Kenn James totaled 118 yards on 16 carries.

The Toreros remain in the hunt for the Pioneer Conference title. Their only setback was a double-overtime loss to Dayton, 45-38.

Lawrence Larivee opened the scoring for San Diego (6-3, 5-1 Pioneer), running it in from 1-yard out. James added a 17-yard rushing score in the second. Valparaiso (1-8, 1-5) tightened the gap when Eric Hoffman hit Tanner Kuramata on a 15-yard scoring strike to make it 23-7 at the half.

San Diego quickly extended its lead to 37-7 in the third quarter on two touchdown passes by Mills, to Sam Hoekstra, from 9 yards out and Ferguson, from the 16.
