Metz TD pass in OT lifts UTEP past New Mexico State, 50-47

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Cedrick Lang caught his only pass of the game, a 6-yard strike from Ryan Metz in overtime, to lift UTEP to a 50-47 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night.

Trailing 44-30 in the fourth quarter, Metz connected with Cole Freytag on a 48-yard touchdown pass to cut New Mexico State's lead to 44-37 with 3:08 remaining. Metz then tied the game with an 8-yard run that capped an 8-play, 98-yard drive with 42 seconds left in regulation.

UTEP held the Aggies without a first down on their overtime possession, and Parker Davidson booted a 44-yard field goal to make it 47-44.

Metz was 15 of 19 for 218 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Miners (1-3). UTEP ran 44 times for 269 yards and three touchdowns.

Larry Rose III carried 20 times for 196 yards and a touchdown for New Mexico State (0-3).
