McElwain on stopping Fournette: 'I know I couldn't tackle him'

On Wednesday's teleconference, Florida head coach Jim McElwain was asked about LSU running back Leonard Fournette.

If Florida's to defeat the Tigers in Baton Rouge, it'll have to try and "bottle up" the back averaging over 200 yards rushing per contest.

McElwain divulged his gameplan for stopping the talented rusher. According to Florida's head coach, "I know I couldn't tackle him. Here's what I told our guys, somebody jump on his back, maybe that will slow him down. Maybe somebody else grabs a shoelace and he trips."

Florida's No. 12-ranked rush defense likely will employ more conventional tackling tactics against Fournette, but any and all help from McElwain surely will help. The head coach does feel as if Florida's tackling could stand to improve.

"I'm sure the way we tackle, I'm sure the guy from Tennessee, (Jalen) Hurd and him were talking, and I'm sure Leonard is licking his lips and saying 'This is probably a chance to get 300, the heck with those 200-yard games'."

While McElwain may be operating with a bit of tongue-and-cheek dialogue, he's clearly trying to motivate his team for this massive SEC clash between undefeated teams.
