Late touchdowns help Alabama A&M top MVSU 35-16

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) De'Angelo Ballard ran for a fourth-quarter touchdown and Ryan Ducksworth returned a fumble for another score to open up a close game and Alabama A&M pulled away from Mississippi Valley State 35-16 on Saturday in a game which featured a lengthy lightning delay.

Ballard's touchdown with 13:42 remaining in the fourth quarter made it 28-16. Ducksworth's scoop and score with 9:37 to go proved to be the final score.

Mississippi Valley State (0-2) took a 16-14 lead late in the second quarter when Booker Chambers hooked up with Grant Simms on a 45-yard but A&M came right back to lead 21-16 at the half when Ballard scored on a 4-yard run.

Alabama A&M (1-1) received first-half touchdowns from Jordan Bentley on a 9-yard run and Brian Brower on a 50-yard hookup with Ballard.

Ballard passed for 140 yards and rushed for 78.
