Kevin Johnson may have caught three touchdown passes Saturday night for Lamar but it was the Cardinals defense which deserves the credit in this one, pitching a shutout in a 31-0 victory over visiting NAIA Division I Langston.

The Cardinals held the Langston (1-3) offense to 163 total yards. The Lions completed only 5 of 18 third-down attempts, and made it in the red zone only twice.

Herschel Sims gave the Cardinals (2-2) an early 6-0 lead only 36 seconds into the game, scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run. The score came shortly after Johnson put Lamar in scoring range by returning the opening kickoff for 72 yards to the Lions 23.

Johnson added four catches for 84 yards and three touchdowns after his opening kickoff return.
