Kansas hires Ianello as assistant

Kansas coach Charlie Weis tapped into his connections to Notre Dame on Tuesday and hired Rob Ianello as the Jayhawks' wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Weis also announced he was retaining Buddy Wyatt as defensive line coach.
Ianello was fired in November after going 2-22 in two seasons at Akron. Before that, he spent five seasons as an assistant under Weis in South Bend, coaching wide receivers and coordinating the Fighting Irish's recruiting efforts.
He later served as interim coach when Weis was fired.
Weis already has hired Ron Powlus, his quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame, in the same capacity at Kansas. Powlus coached quarterbacks under Ianello at Akron, too.
Wyatt spent the past two seasons coaching the defensive line under Turner Gill. Before that, he coached at Texas A&M, Nebraska, Alabama, Colorado and Northwestern.
Running backs coach Reggie Mitchell has already been retained from Gill's staff.
