Casey Therriault threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Jackson State past Alcorn State 27-14 on Saturday.
Therriault finished with 164 yards on 16-for-22 passing and ran for another 51 yards before suffering a shoulder injury with about four minutes left in the first half.
The Walter Payton Award nominee, finished 175 yards shy of breaking Robert Kent's single-season school passing record, and tied Kent's single season TD record with 31.
He threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Renty Rollins and a 4-yard pass to Marcell Wilder to give the Tigers (8-3, 6-3 Southwestern Athletic Association) a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
Therriault added a 2-yard TD run in the second quarter, and Jackson State held on the rest of the way.
Jameson Smith brought the Braves (5-6, 4-5) within 27-14 on a 21-yard interception return with 1:37 left in the third quarter.
