Irish's Floyd can work out with team

Suspended Notre Dame star wide receiver Michael Floyd hopes to have a plea deal in place by the end of June on a misdemeanor drunken driving arrest, his attorney said Tuesday.
St. Joseph County Magistrate Brian Steinke granted attorney William Stanley's request Tuesday that the case be delayed until June 29 so he can obtain the narrative of the arrest report.
''As soon as Michael and I have a chance to review that, we'll sit down with the deputy prosecutor and see if we can come up with a resolution,'' Stanley said.
The 21-year-old Floyd, who didn't attend Tuesday's hearing, was arrested March 20 after authorities said he ran a stop sign near the school. Prosecutors say a breathalyzer test showed Floyd had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 percent, more than double Indiana's legal limit for driving. If convicted, the 21-year-old Floyd faces up to a year in jail.
On Monday, Notre Dame announced that Floyd could take part in voluntary workouts this summer led by Irish players and strength and conditioning exercises supervised by the school's strength and conditioning staff, but said he has not been reinstated to the team. Floyd was suspended by coach Brian Kelly from working out with the team starting the day after he was arrested.
Kelly said in a news release Monday night that Floyd still has steps he must take to be reinstated, but didn't specify what those steps are.
''If he meets the conditions I have outlined to him and he demonstrates improved decision-making skills, Michael will have the opportunity to rejoin the team for practices and games this fall,'' Kelly said. ''If he doesn't meet every criteria given to him, Michael will not play for Notre Dame in 2011.''
Floyd was Notre Dame's leading receiver last season and is the school's career leader in touchdown catches (28), ranks second in school history in catches (171) and third in receiving yards (2,539).
