Browns second touchdown came on a 38-yard pass to Brandon Venson with no time left in the first half, giving the Redbirds (4-4, 3-2 Missouri Valley) a 21-14 lead. The pass was tipped by players on both teams before it was picked out of the air by Venson.

Earlier, Illinois State scored on a 1-yard run by Geno Blow and a 15-yard pass from Brown to Cody White.

Cody Kirby threw a pair of touchdown passes for Missouri State (5-4, 3-3), but the Bears were unable to score in the second half. The only scoring after halftime came on Zach Kutch's 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Illinois State.
