Howard beats Hampton 42-36 in 2OT

Gregg McGhee threw for 265 yards and a touchdown to lead Howard to a 42-37 victory over Hampton in double overtime on Saturday.

McGhee also had 152 yards rushing for the Bison (6-6, 4-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Anthony Philyaw rushed for 111 yards and four touchdowns.

Down 26-7 at the break, Hampton scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to lead by three. With 3:20 left to play in regulation, Howard's John Fleck booted a 20-yard field goal to send the game into overtime at 29-29.

Howard scored first in OT on a 2-yard touchdown pass from McGhee to Brandon Flanagan, capping a 13-play drive. Hampton answered with a TD to send the game into the second OT. After a Hampton field goal, a final touchdown by Philyaw gave the 3-point edge to the Bison.

Bryan Bailey threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns for the Pirates (4-8, 4-4).
