Gardner-Webb defeats Wofford 3-0 in rainstorm

Jordan Day kicked a 35-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to lead Gardner-Webb over Wofford 3-0 in a driving rainstorm Saturday night.
Gardner-Webb (3-1) benefited by a muffed punt and intentional grounding call on Wofford punter Kasey Redfern to set up Gardner-Webb at the Wofford one-yard line. A touchdown pass two plays later from Lucas Beatty was called back for a chop block, setting up the field goal attempt.
The kick made a hero of Day, who handles both placekicking and punting duties for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The weather affected play all evening, and Day was just 1 of 3 in field goal attempts.
Juanne Blount led Gardner-Webb in rushing with 139 yards. Beatty completed 13 of 24 passes for 111 yards.
Donovan Johnson led Wofford (2-2) with 116 yards on 28 carries. Evan Jacks completed just 1 of 6 for five yards and an interception.
