Florida State star defensive back Jalen Ramsey has decided to forgo his senior season with the Seminoles and enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

Ramsey, a 6-foot-1, 203-pound junior, is a two-time all-American who has excelled at both safety and cornerback.

“Today, after having in depth discussions with my parents, my coaches and others whom I hold dear to my heart, I am announcing my decision to pursue my dream, forgo my senior year of football at Florida State and declare for the 2016 NFL Draft,” Ramsey said in the statement released by the school.

The ultra-athletic Ramsey started all 41 games at FSU, racking up 180 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, three interceptions and 23 pass breakups.

Ramsey, who also starred on the track and field team as a long jumper and sprinter, became the first true freshman to start at cornerback for the Seminoles since Deion Sanders and also helped FSU win a national title in 2013.

Ramsey's move to the NFL was fully endorsed by head coach Jimbo Fisher.

“I’m extremely happy for Jalen and his family,” Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I think it is a very smart decision by him. He will be a tremendous pro. He was an outstanding player and leader for us. I cannot say enough good things about him. I wish him nothing but the best and he will always be a part of the Florida State family.”
