FSU Football: Recent Post Bye Week Success Good Sign For Seminoles

With FSU football now getting a week off to prepare for the last games of the regular season, we take a look at how that extra week has been successful.

It’s the week of the season that fans of FSU football have been dreading since the start of the year: the bye week. It’s the one weekend of the regular season where we have know action from the Seminoles to look forward to. It also comes at the right time: ahead of a season making game against Clemson that could keep the ‘Noles alive in the ACC Championship Game race.

For a period of time, the bye week was not a good thing for the Seminoles because of what took place in the game that followed. From the 2001 season until the 2005 season, the ‘Noles had six bye weeks over that five season span (two each in 2002 and 2003 along with none during the 2004 season after the Miami game was moved due to Hurricane Francis).

Over that span, the Seminoles went 3-3 after having the week off – with all three of the losses coming at home (twice to Miami and once to Notre Dame).

In the decade that as followed, the bye week has been much nicer to FSU football once they return to the field. In those 10 games (ironically, all away from Tallahassee), the Seminoles have a record of 7-3:

2006 – Lost 24-20 at N.C. State

2007 – Won 21-14 vs. Alabama (Jacksonville)

2008 – Won 26-17 at N.C. State

2009 – Won 30-27 at North Carolina

2010 – Lost 28-24 at N.C. State

2011 – Lost 35-30 at Wake Forest

2012 – Won 28-22 at Virginia Tech

2013 – Won 51-14 at Clemson

2014 – Won 42-31 at Louisville

2015 – Won 24-16 at Wake Forest

The bye week couldn’t come at a better time – as the Seminoles are needing to win out and get plenty of help if they want to even imagine getting to Orlando for the conference championship game.

It would be nice if Clemson didn’t have their bye week as well at the same time and would come in off a hard fought game before coming to Tallahassee, but you can’t get everything you want. However, a repeat of the 2013 meeting would be pretty nice.
