Sean Ashley scrambled for a touchdown with 1:09 left in the fourth to put Florida Tech ahead for good in the program's inaugural game, a 20-13 victory over Stetson.

The Panthers rallied late from what had been a 10-0 Stetson lead early in the game.

Florida Tech (1-0) tied the game with 6:25 remaining on 26-yard touchdown pass from Ashley to Xavier Milton.

On the ensuing kickoff Terrance Burton returned the ball 102 yards for Stetson (1-1). Once clear of the pursuit, Burton high-stepped into the end zone, earning a 15-yard penalty that nullified what would have been a go-ahead touchdown. The Hatters got the ball on the Florida Tech 32, but fumbled the ball three plays later.

Florida Tech coach Steve Englehart preached the importance of stopping the Stetson running game. The Panther defense held the Hatters to less than 2 yards per carry.
