MINOT, N.D. (AP) A former Minot State University football player accused of attacking two police officers during a traffic stop has been convicted on five charges.

A jury on Friday found Jesse Ili guilty on one misdemeanor charge of assault against an officer, but found him not guilty of a felony aggravated assault charge against another officer.

Ili was also convicted of preventing arrest, fleeing and drug possession.

Jurors deliberated for about two hours.

The incident happened last summer after officers responded to a report of suspected drug use in a parked vehicle. Prosecutors say Ili bashed the head of one officer against a pole several times and punched another officer in the head.

Four other team members were arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and ingesting a controlled substance.
