Leaving a child alone in a car is never an advisable choice, regardless of the reason for doing so, but doing it while you hang out inside the strip club takes bad parenting to a whole new level.
Father of the Year candidate Monty Grow was a big-hitting linebacker for the University of Florida in the late 1980s and early 90s — a span that included a one-year ban for steroid use — and on Sunday, the now-41-year-old allegedly left his 3-year-old daughter in the car while he paid a visit to Diamond Dolls strip club in Clearwater, Fla.
According to WTSP (via Larry Brown Sports), Grow returned to the car around 9:48 p.m. to find police investigating, and admitted to having left the girl unattented.
A spokesperson from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office told FOXSports.com that Grow’s car was found parked in the rear of a car sales lot next door to the club, and that his stop at Diamond Dolls was discovered by the girl’s mother, who had been tracking his location on her phone.
Grow told deputies that he had stopped at the club to collect money that he had lent to an employee, and that he had only been inside for a few minutes. However, the arrest affidavit stated that he had actually been inside for roughly 20 minutes. The girl was not injured and had already been removed from the vehicle by her mother and her grandparents when police arrived.
Grow, who also played in 19 games in two NFL seasons with Kansas City and Jacksonville, was charged with child abuse and released from the Pinellas County Jail on $5,000 bail.
