Edsall high on Terps' talent coming out of spring

Spring football is often a time for optimism, but Randy Edsall did not hold back when asked to assess the amount of talent he sees on his roster as it moves into the next phase of preparations for its second year in the Big Ten.

Maryland only returns 10 starters combined on offense and defense, but the Terrapins' head coach told the Big Ten Network's Tom Dienhart he expects the returning players and his incoming recruiting class to form the best roster he has had since taking over in College Park in 2011.

"Once we incorporate our freshmen, it will be," Edsall responded when asked if this will be his most talented team. "It’s a young team. But there is more talent here top to bottom from what we have had here before."

Maryland finished third in the Big Ten East last season, but most would agree a talent upgrade was still in order for the Terrapins to challenge the reigning top two of Ohio State and Michigan State. Optimism also abounds at Michigan and Penn State as coaches Jim Harbaugh and James Franklin, respectively, work to rebuild those former powerhouses.

The quality of the roster was far from the only topic Dienhart and Edsall covered in this post-spring Q-and-A. Be sure to check out the whole thing here.
