The Duquesne defense allowed only 178 yards of offense against Bucknell in a 17-13 win on Saturday.

In the season opener for both teams, Dukes quarterback Sean Patterson completed 13 of 24 passes for 159 yards including a 9-yard touchdown toss to wide receiver Dave Williams.

Patterson put Duquesne in front early after scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run just over three minutes into the first quarter.

Bucknell kicker Drew Orth pulled the Bison to within four points after booting a 36-yard field goal with 9:41 left on the game clock. But it wasn't enough as the Dukes held Bucknell to 35 yards on its final two possessions of the game.

Sophomore running back Larry McCoy led Duquesne on the ground with 81 yards rushing while senior linebacker Nathan Totino had a team-high 13 total tackles for the Dukes.
