One of the most respected college football coaches of all time will be the special guest at Briarwood Academy this Friday.
His name: Vince Dooley, former head coach and athletic director at the University of Georgia.
Dooley, whose overall career in athletics at Georgia spanned 40 years, is scheduled to be at the private school in neighboring Warren County between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. From 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Dooley will be inside the school gym selling and autographing several of his books.
Admission to the game will be $6 and covers those wishing to buy autographed books from Dooley.
Then before the start of this year's home football opener between the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers and Piedmont Academy, Dooley will participate in the traditional coin toss on the Briarwood field.
Barbecue chicken plates with all of the trimmings will be sold for $7 before the 7:30 p.m. game.
Dooley will be selling several of his books. Among them, the collection will include: Gardening with Vince Dooley for $35; My 40 Years at Georgia for $25; My Journey Through the Peach State with Hairy Dog for $20; How 'Bout Them Dawgs for $20; and Dooley's Play Book: 34 of Georgia's Most Memorable Plays for $35.
"He's by far, I'm sure, the most special guest this school has ever had on its campus," said Briarwood head coach John Osborne, a member of the University of Georgia football team during his junior and senior years. He later went on to graduate with a degree in Biology. "It's going to be a real special night at Briarwood Academy with coach Dooley there. We're hoping for a real big crowd."
When coach Osborne played at Georgia, the head coach of the Bulldogs was Ray Goff, who once played quarterback at Georgia.
It will mark Dooley's first-ever visit to Briarwood Academy.
