Depth at receiver should help Allen develop

With only five career starts under his belt, sophomore quarterback Kyle Allen, Texas A&M's presumptive starter, has a lot to prove in College Station. A deep, talented and experienced corps of receivers should help.

The Aggies are, frankly, loaded at wideout with Josh Reynolds, Speedy Noil, Edward Pope and Ricky Seals-Jones all returning. The four combined for 177 catches for 2,344 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns last year. It's little wonder that between that group and Allen, the top-ranked quarterback in his class, A&M's passing attack was recently given title of best in the conference by prominent SEC website Saturday Down South.

While the Aggies' wideouts rarely get the national recognition that Ole Miss star Laquon Treadwell and Auburn's Duke Williams do, that's at least partially attributable to the "distribution of wealth" in Kevin Sumlin's modified Air Raid offense. All four of the aforementioned receivers are both capable and explosive, and they'll provide Allen with plenty of opportunities -- and SEC defensive coordinators with plenty to think about -- this season.
