Delaware holds off West Chester 28-17

Andrew Pierce rushed for two touchdowns and Tim Donnelly threw for another, helping Delaware hold off West Chester 28-17 on Saturday night.

Pierce ran for 123 yards on 23 carries and Donnelly was 21 of 28 passing for Delaware (1-1), which held off a surge from the Division II Golden Rams after leading 21-0 after one quarter.

After Jessel Curry's 34-yard interception return opened the scoring for the Blue Hens, Pierce's 7-yard run and Donnelly's 28-yard pass to Mark Schenauer put them up by three TDs after the first quarter.

West Chester fought back with a 2-yard rushing TD by Rondell White in the second quarter, and Matt Carroll's 14-yard TD pass to LaRonn Lee in the fourth pulled them within four points.

On Delaware's next possession, Pierce scored on a 44-yard run to seal the win.

Carroll finished with 184 passing yards and two interceptions for West Chester.
