Players to watch:

Florida State: Dalvin Cook ran for 1,876 yards and 18 touchdowns despite not being fully healthy for part of the season.

Houston: Greg Ward Jr., Ran for 1,041 yards and 19 touchdowns, threw for 2,590 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Notable

Houston: The Cougars had a great turnaround season in their first year under head coach Tom Herman... Demarcus Ayers (89 catches for 1,140 yards) has been Ward's favorite target in Herman's power spread offense... Steven Taylor has nine sacks.

Florida State: The Seminoles were 6-0 before losing two of three, one on a fluky blocked field goal return for a touchdown and the other a 10-point loss to No. 1 Clemson... Cook averaged 7.9 yards per carry... Demarcus Walker had 10.5 sacks.

Orange Bowl

Players to watch:

Clemson: Deshaun Watson led the ACC in passing efficiency, yards (3,512), and passing touchdowns (30). He ranked in the national top 20 in all three categories.

Oklahoma: Baker Mayfield was second nationally in passing efficiency and sixth in touchdown passes (35). Threw for 3,389 yards. Samaje Perine ran for 1,291 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Notable

Clemson: The Tigers were 11th in the nation with 2.9 sacks per game and also ranked in the top 10 nationally in pass yards allowed (166.9 per game), pass efficiency defense, total defense (295.7 ypg.), tackles for loss (8.3 per game) and third-down conversion defense (24.9 percent).

Oklahoma: Zach Sanchez was sixth in the country with six interceptions... Sooners were third in the nation in scoring (45.8 points per game) and fourth nationally in sacks (3.2 per game).

Cotton Bowl

Matchup: No. 2 Alabama -No. 3 Michigan State

Alabama: Derrick Henry ran for a national-best 1,986 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. Jonathan Allen and Tim Williams finished in the top 25 nationally in sacks.

Michigan State: Connor Cook threw for 2,921 yards and 24 touchdowns. Aaron Burbridge caught 80 passes for 1,219 yards and seven touchdowns.

Alabama: The Crimson Tide lead the nation in rushing defense (74.0 (yards per game) and are third in scoring (14.4 ppg.)... Alabama was second in the nation in total defense (258.2 ypg.) and fifth in time of possession.

Michigan State: The Spartan offense was fourth in the nation on third down (50.5 percent)... Michigan State was ninth in the nation in rushing defense (113.1 ypg.)... The Spartans were fourth in the nation in turnover margin and ninth in time of possession.
